America The Beautiful
O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain….the beginning lyrics to a song I learned at Burnett Elementary School.
Mrs. Robinson would play the piano and we would belt out the words, we were free then as kids to be kids. We were not looking around for how we are different but how we are the same, and we were free to love our country.
I was born and raised in San Antonio. I am a graduate of Fox Tech High School, the Pride of Downtown San Antonio, fondly referred to as “La Techla”
I lived for a time in the Victoria Courts with my Grandma, Clara J. Orta. The Victoria Courts was a very dangerous place to live, my Grandma kept it safe for the neighbors and us by keeping a vigilant eye on everything. If there was something that was needed in the Courts to keep people safe, but was not being done, Clara would pick up the phone and call Henry B., her Representative, and the problem would get fixed. Henry B Gonzalez, as a Representative, was so connected with his constituents that a grandmother at 127 Pear Walk in the Victoria Courts could pick up the phone, and he would help her with her most important need, to keep her kids and her home safe. That type of representation should be the goal.
I am a Registered Nurse by profession and a Veteran of the United States Army Reserves. If there was one thing I was sure I would do in my life was join the service. My dad, Tomas Orta, was in the Army and later joined the Army Reserves. One of my fondest memories was my dad coming home from drill and bringing a box of C-Rations for my brother Jr and I, we loved them. They were a break from the regular beans and rice.
One of the proudest moments of my life was joining the military, like my dad, and taking the Oath of Enlistment: To support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Growing up in my family, you just knew you were a Democrat, because Democrats were the champions for the poor; Therefore, I must be a Democrat, until I really started paying attention and realized I was being BAMBOOZLED.
I am proud today to call myself a Conservative; I am a GOD fearing, Country loving AMERICAN.
My about me is long, but I wanted everyone to know my background, to know that my concerns are the same as everyone else’s. I want to earn a good living, I want to be safe where I live, I want good schools for my kids and to have a roof over my head. I want to have enough money to take a break and go on vacation occasionally. I am a regular citizen, a single mom working hard making an honest living as a Registered Nurse helping people every day resolve their health issues.
There is an urgency to bring some normalcy, honesty, and respectability to government and Representatives of the people of the United States.
If every time you look around some elected official in public office is lying, cheating, stealing and then lying about lying cheating and stealing, how are you going to hold anyone accountable for anything? How can we recognize normal?
America is beautiful, my State of Texas is great, and my City of San Antonio is a perfect blend of love, hope and kindness.
I am Tammy K. Orta, Candidate for Congress, hoping to represent the Texas 20th District, a vote for me is a vote for a good American.
I would appreciate your vote.
